Summer Markets, 2010

At the same time, it seems both early and late to be starting the summer market season.

Not more than a month ago it was cold and dark and seemed that the last bits of winter were going to stick around forever. In the past couple of weeks it’s been gorgeous, and the winter weather seems a distant memory.

Must be time for the farmers markets to begin. And Kakao is ready. For four of them!

The first summer market will be the Maplewood Market at Schlafly’s Bottleworks, which starts TODAY, and continues through fall, every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. (Because who doesn’t want to do their shopping while enjoying a nice Schlafly beer…?)

The last of the winter markets is the St. Louis Community Farmers Market this Saturday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. John’s on Arsenal by Grand. (It’s really going to be tough calling this a ‘winter’ market when it’s supposed to be 72 degrees on Saturday, but oh well.)

That market morphs back into the Tower Grove Farmers Market starting on Saturday, May 8 and continues every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Two weeks after that, May 22, Kakao will venture west to the Clayton Farmers Market, at Straub’s in Clayton, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. That’s right, folks, Kakao is going to do two markets every Saturday — we’re excited to be expanding!

But wait, there’s even more! Starting on June 3, the folks at the Tower Grove market are launching the Downtown Farmers Market by the Old Post Office downtown St. Louis. Located on Locust between 8th and 9th Streets, this market will run from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and bring fresh locally grown produce and locally produced products (including Kakao, of course!) to city dwellers and workers alike.

Yes, four markets a week for Kakao this summer. And of course we’re going to have the shop open our regular hours, Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Oh, one more thing: tonight is the Iron Fork competition at the St. Louis Union Station Marriott from 6 to 9 p.m. There’ll be dozens of restaurants there with samples of their best, including Kakao — we’re bringing sea salt caramels and marshmallow pies.

And we have a few tickets to the event for our loyal customers. Keep an eye on our Facebook page (you’re a fan already, right?) to see how you can get them into your hands, free.

See you soon!
