Kakao Maplewood to Open Thursday

No, not on Tuesday — we’re ready, but the weather isn’t. No use anyone risking life and limb for chocolate, with the Storm of the Century on its way to St. Louis.

But yes, we’re going to open the Kakao Maplewood store on Thursday, February 3. Back in November when we signed the lease at 7272 Manchester (right around the corner from Schlafly Bottleworks, between Femme and Bouffant Daddy), we said we were going to open in early February, and no one — probably not even us — believed it could be done. But the team has been hard at work and we’re set.

We know you’re going to love the murals in the new shop. Phil Jarvis has been painting away over the past week, and has created a Kakao tree forest that looks beautiful. Here’s a shot of him working on it.

To alleviate any concern about the Jefferson Avenue store, it is NOT closing. That’s right, two Kakao stores in St. Louis. There seems to be a great demand for all-natural handmade chocolates and confections!

Both stores will make and sell chocolates and confections, the same selection of truffles, sea salt and other caramels, marshmallow pies, and the rest. And, of course, our famous hot chocolate. Right now both shops are gearing up for Valentine’s Day, and we’ll have plenty of truffles and heart boxes and Valentine lollies and lots of other treats.

Kakao Maplewood will be open (starting Thursday) Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Kakao Jefferson will be open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(We might tweak these hours a bit, so stay tuned, and let us know if you have any comments or questions!)

See you on Thursday after every gets shoveled out from the storm!!
